TERM DEPOSIT SCAM WARNING
British fraudsters from overseas are contacting Australian investors offering term deposits and bank bonds whilst impersonating genuine Australian financial institutions, banks, and support services. The fraudsters are cloning real and authorised Australian companies using fake websites created by the scam syndicate. The fraudsters will offer to set up Term Deposits at an attractive interest rate and induce the victim into sending money to a bank account controlled by a money launderer (known as a money mule). Once the victim transfers their funds, the money is immediately withdrawn from the nominated money mule account and transferred overseas or cashed out into cryptocurrency.
